Pembrokeshire has some of the most delightful beaches in the United Kingdom. In fact no other county has as many Blue Flag or Seaside Award beaches. There are more than fifty to select from and there is unquestionably something for everyone. There are dramatic bays where you can go windsurfing and sailing or there are quieter beaches suitable for families with kids looking for the time-honored bucket and spade holiday.

Whitesands Beach is overlooked by the craggy hill of Carn Llidi and has a huge area of fine white sand that curves towards the rocky headland of St David’s Head. This beach is very popular with surfers and on busy days there are many enthusiasts competing for the best waves. The southern end of the beach tends to be quieter and has some nice sheltered areas.

East Angle Bay is a quiet beach composed of white sand and mud flats. It is a perfect spot for bird watching as it is an important feeding location for waders.

One beach that is definitely worth a trip is Swanlake Bay. However, it is only accessible via the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path so is not the easiest of beaches to get to. It is a shingle beach, but at low tide it reveals golden sands and rock pools. Due to the fact that it is so difficult to get to it provides an outstanding option for those of you who wish to get away from it all and take pleasure in a bit of calm and quiet. Even at the height of summer you may find there are only a handful of persons on this beach.

Saundersfoot is very popular with families as it is a wide flat sandy beach. There is also a pretty harbour and beautiful views from the top of the hill overlooking the bay.

Newport Sands is a long, broad beach at the mouth of the River Nevern. It is backed by dunes and the large, flat beach is big enough for all those enjoyable activites such as cricket and frisbee throwing! It is also very popular with all kinds of watersports enthusiasts.

One of the biggest beaches in this region is Newgale. In fact it is not quite two miles long and is backed by a huge pebble bank which was formed in 1859 after a powerful storm. It is brilliant for kite surfing and surfing and tuition is available.

Marloes Sands is a very pretty beach which at low tide presents a big expanse of sand with rocks and interesting cliff formations. Rockpools can be located at the western end of the beach. At high tide the beach can vanish altogether.

Sheridan Wyoming – a Summer Wonderland

Those who would rather hike sans a golf bag can follow tree-lined trails for miles throughout the Big Horn National Forest. For memorable multi-day hikes, arrange some time for the Edelman or Paint Rock Trails. You’ll locate picturesque mountain campsites along nearly all trails, so be sure to pack your sleeping bag and be prepared to sleep out under the open sky.

Sheridan’s Historic Legacy

We can’t, of course, disregard the historical significance of the area. Within an hour’s drive of  Sheridan you’ll find various battlefields preserving the battles between Native Americans and early settlers.

Sheridan’s Cowboy Legacy

Throughout the year in Sheridan, cowboys keep rodeo fever alive with regular rodeos and roping competitions. It all culminates each July at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, a week-long celebration of the region’s cowboy heritage.

To engross yourself completely in Western tradition, plan to attend the Sagebrush Cowboy Gathering every February. Cowboy musicians, poets and storytellers will mesmerize with tales of the Wild West. There’s a little for every age group, including a kid’s poetry competition.

Museums, shops, and galleries throughout the Sheridan vicinity continue to celebrate the area’s robust Western legacy. Look for superb examples of leather and silver work, in particular.
